My Five Year Plan
Answering the question about where I'd like to be five years after graduation is definitely difficult at the moment, especially since I'm still figuring out my life. Right now, I would probably like to have a design job at least five years after I graduate, and I hope this program helps me figure out what that might look like. In terms of what that path would look like, I think it would probably start with one or more internships, which would also help me figure out what kind of a career I'd enjoy the most. Next, I'd see if I can get a job at either the place I was interning at, or even somewhere else. At the moment, I'm only 18, and my primary goal is to land on a career path that I will enjoy, or, at least, tolerate. I've already explored other career options, and I'm sure I'll continue to in the future, but design is very exciting to me, and I feel that my passion for it is a good sign for how much I'd enjoy it as a career.
I think that the best gauge of how successful I am on this path would be if I feel satisfied in what I have achieved, and in the work that I'm doing. Also, being able to support myself would be an important factor as well. I hope to be able to make enough money to live without too much worry about not having enough, but I know that this goal will probably take a while to materialize. I think the bottom line is that being happy is probably the best gauge of how successful I am. If I'm not happy, then I probably need to rethink my strategy.
I'm so lucky to have a great family who have always supported me, and I know that this will help me through the journey of finding a career. My mom is a graphic designer, and I'm so excited that I'll be able to get advice from her on being successful in the field of graphic design. Both my parents and my brother are very supportive, which is so great to have. I'm very fortunate to have this support system, and I now it will help me a lot in the coming years.
